Interviews, Interviews, Interviews.

Three interviews to be exact. This week is the beginning of my first major Journalism assignment, the aim of the game is to test my ability of finding people to interview in relation to a topic, of my choice, that has something to do with the university I attend. A requirement of said assignment is to include three of these reliable and reputable sources, as I stand, I now only need two. This week will encompass my quest to complete these interviews and write a decent news story. In most academic cases you'd expect that the hardest part of an assignment is writing enough words to match the limit, Journalism on the other hand is a different story altogether. From spending countless hours trying to manufacture a topic and angle that makes sense and retains readability, to researching peoples backgrounds to ascertain who would fit your story as a primary source. The latter of the two proving to be more trouble than its weight in available Journalism jobs.

It isn't very hard to imagine that the source of my woes lies in the people I try to interview; from technology born errors in communication, to outright not receiving a reply to an interview request, it would seem that the odds are stacked against me. But as much as I love to have a quick whinge and whine, it won't get me the contacts I need. But enough about negatives, you aren't here to read my outcries about my oh so unfair life. I'll apologise now for the sarcasm, not very good at it I am. It hasn't been all doom and gloom when it comes to this assignment. Officially I began trying to gather interviews a few weeks ago, but as time slipped by so did my opportunities to email more candidates, this week though I have made it my mission to complete all three by Friday; With that being written it's now Monday and I just finished an interview with the CEO of an Australian national research company. I'll keep companies and whatnot censored while I write, as to not attract any undue attention. This particular interview went smoothly in my humbled opinion, questions were asked and answered; this was the first interview I had ever held, nerve-racking to say the least. Now that I've gotten a taste for the essence of what being a journalist is, I'm sure that it is something I'd commit my future towards doing. Despite this only being the first of many interviews to come, I feel infinitely more prepared than what I was yesterday, as this is the first stepping stone of experience towards achieving, my personal, brighter future.

On a side note lets talk about aspirations. I'd expect that as an avid reader, you'd had an inkling that I may hope to be a Journalist one day. But lets be a little more specific as in; What type?; Where would you like to work; and What company would you like to work with? To answer these questions, I'd say it's time for a brisk stroll down memory lane. Ever since I was around 9 or 10 years old, I took a real interest in National Geographic magazine, it started with an issue that was based around black-hole theory. Now obviously I hadn't a clue about the mathematic theory of gravity and dark matter etc... but at that time the pictures of the starry night sky, the Hubble Space Telescope and even the enhanced images of all the galaxies in the observable universe, drew me into this amazing magazine. From that point onwards, whenever I had the opportunity I'd ask the parents to buy me an issue when they went to the news agent, however rare that specific trip was. At first I would only look at the expertly taken pictures, but with time and as I matured, I then began to read the stories which were equally interesting and amazing as their accompanying photos. This is what sparked my aspirations of becoming a Journalist, to live the amazing and interesting lives of the Journalists at National Geographic. One day I hope that I'll to be able to travel the world, and write life-changing stories, like the ones I used to read; and take photos with beauty that even the most carefree kids could appreciate.

Thats me done for tonight, so goodnight my readers lets aspire for our dreams together.

A word from the writer.

Josh.
