The end in sight.

With the first week of my well-earned getaway done and dusted, this can be considered my final 'Holiday' post. The past few days have held a myriad of experiences some good and some better. This trip has had its fair share of firsts in regards to my life, last night being no exception. From getting outright lost to getting your name known throughout a small country town, these first-time experiences have all been bewildering.

Now, to last night...

It's 7pm, the light smell of alcohol tinges the air. Streams of orange light spill out of the Pub windows and onto the silent street ahead of me. It's cool, the light wind caressing my face as I approach the entrance to the pub. The word "OPEN" in red neon plastered against the glass of the front door, with the sounds of an early evening revel being faintly heard through closed windows. My friends and I enter over the threshold of the old building and are welcomed by slightly groggy, yet happy faces. One man is curled over his drink sitting at the bar to the right of the room, whilst the only two tall tables having already been surrounded by groups of hardworking men looking for a chance at relaxation. We say our greetings and cut through the busy barroom and head out back, a pool table greets us and our night begins.

Now that I've created a sense of posh sensibility with that little introduction to my night, lets delve into the rest of this interesting night to remember.

As I have hinted above, tonight has also been a night that I first did something, so lets get to it. We started with only a round of beers and a game of pool, but with beers being "only" $5 and a round of pull being only $2, it was a matter of time before a 5 minute game of pool and a 10 minute beer became a 10 minute game of pool with a 5 minute beer. Being the blokes we are, drinks go down easy and with pool to distract us who was to blame when it was time for yet another round of drinks. So as you could probably imagine, by the time the pool table had loosened its grip on our attention span's we were all well on our ways. To where? Well I'll leave that to your imagination.

Being in the states we were in, once we had remembered that "tonight is karaoke night" we were ecstatic and giggling like a bunch or girls in a schoolyard, as we went through our collection of practically impossible songs to sing. Settling on 'Dead or Alive' By Bon jovi and 'Paradise City' by Guns 'N' Roses. Here lies in my first for the night, public karaoke in a small town pub? Checked that one off my list.

So with our night over, we all handled our alcohol surprisingly well. Considering we all lost count less than halfway through the night... And despite our iterations of Dead or Alive and Paradise City being well below any standard, the town learned to love us and now have taken my group in as their own, whilst we enjoyed every last minute spent last night.

This will be my last post for the trip. So with that being written, the next time you hear from me I'll be home safe and sound and ready to write again.

A word from the writer.

Josh.
