Today the city kids have survived their rural escape, now resting as a result of their relentless state-crossing drive...

Due to the mental and physical fatigue that has finally set in due to our almost-two week long bush-whacking experience, I think I'll keep todays post rather short... I think it's to be expected really. I'm sure you all know that post-holiday slump that we experience as a side-effect of 'too much' enjoyment... So I'll be writing short and sweet, and rightly so.

The drive home was once again one of those experiences where I'll look back upon it and think ... Never. Again. But I know that there's already another trip down the pipeline that I just can't wait to have the pleasure of experiencing. With that being said, the fact that this road-trip has come to such a sudden and abrupt end has left me with a feeling of longing, almost questioning whether I enjoy life in this coastal city. I may have the holiday blues, but sometimes I wish that all would slow down and relax, much like the dreary outback towns that line the never-ending, snake-like country highways.

If I were to sum up the entirety of this getaway in a single word, it would have to be... liberating.

Everything about this trip from how we prepared, to how we planned each and every day was a freedom of choice that my friends and I had. Even looking over the sun-kissed landscape as the sun reached the horizon at the end of every day made you feel a sense of openness and freedom that couldn't be matched by the city landscapes I've grown used to today.

The end of such a memorable trip has left a melancholy tinge in the night air. Hopefully I'll soon assimilate back into my city lifestyle and let the call of the country subside to the back of my mind once again. In time the quiet hills of the country side will be within reach of my embrace again, but until then I can wait once more.
