The new year is in full swing... Everything feels, somehow refreshed. But thats the same for each new beginning I suppose.

Today I write, with a renewed sense of self, leaving the happenings of the past year in the...past.

It feels odd though, I sit here at my old desk, writing on my old laptop, on the same old web page; These feelings of respite coming in waves when I seem to do the same mundane tasks that I've already been continuing for so long now.

Each new year, specifically January, I feel as though everyone goes through a similar phase; A momentary lapse in time for the changing over of calendars is all it takes for most of us to feel a form of, change. Yet once the new year has full-heartedly begun we realise that on the most part we are still going through the same routines, same lives as before without any real basis for these feelings of renewal that seem to sweep in over us with each replacement of the calendar. Another year just ticks on by.

But I digress.

This week has been a rather solemn time, the family have travelled down state, as I've had to stay back for work. Time to myself though is always time well-spent. I believe that if you can't keep yourself company then who can? Expanding on that, throughout all of our lives, yours and mine, I'm sure we've both come to realise that the most reliable person somebody can know is themselves. I appreciate these quiet times, not only for reflection but also due to the fact that theres a certain freedom involved with being your own person, free of the worry of how you're perceived. It's times like these we all need. Now until the family returns, I'll be on the road feeling satisfied with myself. Good use of time, bad use of fuel...

Until next time.

A word from the writer
